I came to Congleton Choral Society (CCS) after attending their performance of Elijah at Congleton Town Hall. It was such a powerful and moving sound; I was totally engrossed. I loved every minute and wondered how fantastic being part of something like that would be. I had previously attended a community choir, singing musical theatre numbers/medleys so choral music was a definite change of direction.I arrived at rehearsals feeling very nervous; unsure whether it would be more than I was capable of. I was met with a very warm welcome and encouraged to join in and just enjoy the experience. So I did. And I haven’t looked back.
Singing in a choir is such an uplifting thing to do and I am learning more and more each week from the Music Director, Tom, about phrasing and how to make a better sound. I love to be learning and striving for improvement so I am totally hooked!

It was Christmas 2017 whilst at a “carols round the tree” in Rushton Spencer, that my friend Lisa heard my enthusiastic rendition of 'Oh Come all ye faithful' (descant, remembered from school days) and suggested I might like Congleton Choral Society.I discovered there was an Academy choir [now replaced by the Community Choir] as well as the main choir. I decided to ease myself in gently, as I wasn't sure if I would be good enough, and went along to the Academy. There was no audition and I was made very welcome. It was informal and friendly and great fun to be making music with others and putting my rusty sight reading skills to use. Chris [then Music Director] struck the right balance; making rehearsals enjoyable whilst ensuring we made a great sound. The Academy performs their own concerts which are fun and give the practices a focus.
